No risk, pay the cost. Know risk, reap the rewards. You would be well advised to give credence to this quote picked up from an introduction to Dr. Ben Carson's book,Take the Risk: Learning to Identify, Choose, and Live with Acceptable Risk. This is in my opinion very sound advice. Not only because of Dr. Carson's success at great risk do I say this. Dr. Carson and I have communicated at least on 3 occasions albeit ever so briefly. His impact was immense.
After evaluating risk and potential return, recognize that you have response ability (get it? thanks to the late Stephen Covey for that one). Should you go back to school, start that business, call that contact, take that chance? Step out on faith and go for it with sustained, enthusiastic rigor. YOU CHOOSE! No risk or KNOW risk. and remember... "When you pray for rain, carry your umbrella." Expectation can tip the scales in your favor.

Get Audacious!

If you have been around much at all you have likely heard something like, "He had the nerve to believe he could..." or "She had the audacity to think she would..." You can fill in the blank, "get that job", "start that business", "when the election..." etc. etc. I don't know how they fared, but one thing is certain, these "audacious" people likely moved well beyond the naysayers who, by the way, tend to just hide in the bushes and watch.

Sometimes you will hear, "Wait until the weather breaks...
until your ship comes in... till you get a little more experience... Just wait!" Now sometimes that may be good advice. Look at where you are and be certain that you are not operating out of fear and looking for an excuse not to TRY!

More often than not, "Going for it," can provide you with a level of insight and experience that is unparalleled even when not victorious, and, you never know. It just might happen. You may surprise a few people.

Life truly comes at you fast. Don't play it so safe that you wind up looking back and thinking "If I wish I could, I would, I should have... Be audacious! Have the audacity to believe you can. All the successful and fulfilled people I know or know of have tried and even failed but they kept on until they hit the mark. And you know what?

They set new trails to blaze and new targets to hit. don't blow your life savings or anything. Just take a chance. Henry David Thoreau wrote,
"If one advances confidently in the direction of one's dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in uncommon hours."

Take Control of Your Personal Economy

One of my wordpress blog entries says "Don't Just Do Something, Stand There". It is important to step back and get perspective and inspiration. Today I offer the other side of the coin. When times are hard, ride the tide! Control the rudder. Be proactive, reactive, but BE ACTIVE! Massive personal action Is like Ghandi says, "Be the change you want to see in the world." Finances suck wind? Be the change. Partner with someone, leverage a system or take a calculated chance outside the norm. If you continue to do what you have always done, at best, "you will continue to get what you've always gotten." Measure your risk then go for it with a passion.
